..here we are at the end of 2017.
I’m not going to ramble on like others who have said the same thing over and over again about 2017 being a “wild ride” or the year of riding the struggle bus.
In some ways, it was.
But hey. We’re all still alive and kicking, right? No worse for the wear. Well, maybe a little.
But my hair grew, and I perfected my French toast recipe, so 2017 is a win in my book. 😉
In all seriousness, I’ve really pushed myself this year, and I hope you have too, friend. My hope for you in this past year was that you learned a lot about yourself, what you’re capable of accomplishing, and that you pushed yourself outside your comfort zone, kicked booty, and made stuff happen.
That’s what I was working on this year. And in some areas, I succeeded more than in others. And that’s okay.
I’m proud of what I’ve created this year, and I’m only hungry for more. (And fries. I’m always hungry for more fries.)
I don’t want this post to be too sappy because I’m really not about that life. I didn’t watch any sappy Hallmark Christmas movies this year, so there. Okay, I watched one. Whatever.
But I would like to highlight a few things I’m proud of that I made happen in 2017 in the hope that it will inspire you to start thinking hard about what YOU did this year and how proud of yourself YOU should be.
Here we go…deep breath in.
My Goals for 2017
- Create a home for Tendril Wild that I can be proud of.
- Get more comfortable on camera.
- Build Tendril Wild into a profitable blog.
- Connect with other bloggers and form a community.
- Practice more vulnerability + transparency in my writing.
- Focus on being more confident in my close personal relationships.
- Stop apologizing for who I am.
When I think back over these goals, I can truthfully say that I’m content with the progress I’ve made in the past 12 months and motivated by the growth I have yet to experience.
When it comes to goals, I think a major key is to keep in mind the steps you’ve taken to move past where you used to be and not to focus on where you may still be lacking. There’s always room for more growth, of course, but even if you’re not yet where you want to be, even if you never took another step forward…you’re enough just as you are now.
In looking forward to 2018, one word keeps popping up in my mind: becoming. I also really want to focus on simplicity more in the coming year. With that in mind, my goals are short, sweet, and to the point (like me). 🙂
My Goals for 2018
- Become more myself.
- Become more accepting with where I’m at in life while in the process of chasing after what I want.
- Simplify areas of my life, namely: belongings, blogging, and social media.
- Become a healthier version of myself—mind, body, and soul.
As you can see, these goals really don’t get any more simple, and that’s exactly what I feel like I need right now.
Less hoopla. Less comparison. Less DO ALL THE THINGS AT ONCE.
I’ve taken inspiration from some of my favorite brands and bloggers and their attention to detail, consistency, and simplicity. Paring down, honing in on what they’re good at, and being okay with that not looking like what everyone else is doing.

And with that comes a wholehearted sense of relief. Of rightness. So, I’m leaning into that for 2018.
If this sounds interesting or like what you need right now, leave a comment below about what you’ll be focusing on next year. What is one goal you have? Are you simplifying?
What I’m Taking into 2018 + What I’m Leaving Behind
In 2018, I’m taking…
- the confidence gained in writing more consistently and finding those other kindred spirits
- the relationships formed with other bloggers
- the joy I’ve felt in writing what’s in my head and on my heart
- the excitement of putting all my effort into one thing and seeing it finally pay off
- the hope of starting a new project and watching it flourish into something I can feel proud of.
In 2018, I’m leaving behind…
- the frustration of growing slowly
- the projects that didn’t inspire me
- the relationships that felt draining
- the unhealthy habits that sidetracked my happiness and progress
- the work that didn’t get me closer to the goals and isn’t profitable for my future.

What are you taking into 2018? What are you leaving behind that didn’t fulfill you?
Before we head into the new year, I want to take the time to say how thankful I am to anyone who has read Tendril Wild this year. This blog started out as just a small little nudge of an idea, an inkling I had that it might turn into something great or interesting or both. I’ve loved working on this blog, and it’s brought me so much purpose.
Through this blog, I’ve learned so much more about myself than I ever thought possible—I know fellow bloggers can relate to that feeling! I never dreamed that sharing my thoughts this way would put me in touch with so many amazing women and connect with so many people who have shared similar experiences to mine. I’m so grateful that this online space exists where so many different creators can come together and share their creativity and hearts. The blogging community may have its faults (as all communities do), but overall, I believe it’s such a supportive, encouraging, and safe space, and I’m so happy I was able to be a part of it.
This year, I did my first reader survey, and was overwhelmed by all the amazing and kind support I received. I’ve saved up all the sweet comments, emails, and messages from this year to read over when I’m facing a challenge or going through a rough patch—they mean so much to me. I’m so thankful for all the people who have supported me on this blogging journey and who wrote such encouraging messages on my reader survey. Just know that I see you, I appreciate you, and I will continue to support you just as much as you’ve supported me.
To end the year, here’s a few highlights from 2017 (+ a reader survey).
The Best of Tendril Wild in 2017
1 | I was approached by the company of one of my favorite blogging tools, Tailwind, and asked if they could promote one of my most popular blog posts, How I Tripled My Blog Traffic in 2 Weeks. It was exciting to have my blog writing recognized by an authority on the subject and about a topic I was so passionate about.
2 | Fellow blogging friend Ashton Long put together a beautiful interactive series for women called The Authentic Woman and invited me to be a part of it. She’s created something so needed and so encouraging—learn more about this project by clicking here. Order a copy of The Authentic Woman Vol I and use code ‘TENDRILWILD20’ to save 20%.
3 | I worked with a brand I had been eyeing for several months, JORD Wood Watches, and they reached out to me earlier this spring to collaborate on a campaign. I had so much fun working on this style post—my first one! These types of opportunities are always exciting, and I’m looking forward to working with more brands I love.
4 | I finally launched my design services and have been busy brainstorming changes for my personal brand and Tendril Wild in 2018. Graphic design is my first true love, and it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for such a long time. I believe blogging played a major part in getting to this point, and I’m SO excited to see where this goes in the future. Watch this space in the coming months for updates!
5 | I launched my free blogging course and greatly surpassed the number of students I expected to have. I so appreciate all the encouraging and positive feedback I’ve gotten about the course. Launching this course also helped me to start making money from my blog. I made more money from Tendril Wild this month than I did all last year combined!
